Tyneside (Newcastle-Gateshead) Clean Air Zone

It is well documented that air pollution is one of the biggest determinants of health and the effects of air pollution disproportionately affect those most vulnerable and disadvantaged in our society - including the young, the old and those with existing health problems.

Clean Air and Low Emission Zones in other cities are already being shown to have beneficial effects.

Ride For Their Lives have joined forces with Climate Action Newcastle to organise a walk and bike ride to celebrate 2023 start of Tyneside (Newcastle-Gateshead) Clean Air Zone.

on

Saturday 28 January 2023.

gathering from 0930 for photographs, media etc

Cyclists and walkers leaving together at 1000 from cafe / meeting area TBC

Ride organised by Ride For Their Lives (contact heather.lambert@ncl.ac.uk for more details)

The cycle route will follow the perimeter of the clean air zone as closely as possible; is 12.5k long and mostly flat. It will be on roads with traffic but will keep to side roads as far as possible for safety. This is not an organised marshalled ride, simply a gathering of people on bikes; we will go at the pace of the slowest and break into smaller groups as required.

Ride at your own risk.
